Our Mission
- The mission of the Republic of Texas History Center is to
educate, preserve, and protect the history of the Republic
of Texas for all generations. - The Republic of Texas History Center (RTHC) bell tower holds the bell that once belonged to Governor Hardin Richard Runnels, elected as Texas governor in 1857. Cast in 1829, the bell still rings loud and true and was donated by Anne Freeman.

New DRT Headquarters and Archive
The Republic of Texas History Center serves as the new headquarters for the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. It also houses its Archive, including the Daughters’ histories and memoirs as well as public, church, and family records not existing elsewhere. Artifacts and information about Texas’ first residents, including documentation of military service and land grants for the Texas Revolution of 1836 and the Republic of Texas time. Access is available by appointment only.
Bob and Carol Steakley Family Research Center
The Family Research Center is a world-class genealogy research center with genealogist assistants on staff to assist in locating historic information, guide your historic research, and help define your historic search.
Meeting Rooms and Special Event Venue
In addition to meeting rooms suitable for hosting conferences and symposiums, a large multi-purpose space and adjacent catering kitchen is available to DRT members and other organizations.
The Daughters of the Republic of Texas
Our Mission:
- Perpetuate the memory and spirit of those who achieved and maintained the independence of Texas.
- Provide educational programs of the highest caliber in coordination with Texas school districts and the Texas Education Agency, as well as programs for the public.
- Encourage research into early Texas records, preserve historic documents and encourage the publication of historic records.
